There’s a trick to get out when you fall into the pits of life. You will fall into it sooner or later. Where’s your ladder?

Mom used to ask me, “Why are you digging that hole deeper and deeper?” It’s a phrase that gets me all riled up and angry.

It’s because it’s true, I dug myself a hole—my mother standing outside of the hole, warning me not to dig up a whole valley.

I LOVE DIGGING HOLES in reality with sandboxes, mining fascination, in games like Minecraft, and into the mystery of life now and then. There’s a limit of how far you can go, I’ve watched people jump right in the hole, and they’re barely back.

Somewhere along the way in your life, you set a goal, and you expect to get there. There are pitfalls on the way; holes you fall or dig yourself into can become massive valleys.

When you set a goal that seems unrealistic to people's eyes, such as a pipedream, the goal becomes exponential. It’s a challenging goal, and it’s what grows you the most. Like I mentioned in my exponential piece, let’s use the same graph to understand the Valley of Depression.
